Cricket's three formats and how betting differs

Each format has a different style of play, so the way you choose your betting markets changes too.

T20

20 overs per side — aggressive batting and bowling under pressure. BPL and IPL are played in this format. With results arriving quickly, Match Winner, highest runs, and multi bet are the most popular markets in T20. The number of sixes can change in any over, so live odds move fast.

ODI

Strategy differs slightly in a 50-over match. The pace shifts from the first powerplay through to the final ten overs. ODIs are most common in the ICC World Cup and bilateral series. Top Batsman and Total Runs Over/Under markets are popular in this format because a longer game gives more opportunity to analyse information.

Test

Five days of cricket — a test of patience and strategy. A draw is possible here, so odds are built around three outcomes (Team A win, Team B win, or draw). Test odds move relatively slowly compared to T20 or ODI.

BPL, IPL and International Matches

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) creates its own excitement among cricket fans in the country every year. IPL matches are also widely followed. The ICC T20 World Cup and international series featuring Bangladesh Tigers — all these competitions have their own appeal for betting. c baji lets you join in on these tournaments across a range of markets.

Alongside cricket, c baji also offers betting on football and other sports. In football, markets for number of goals and handicaps are popular in addition to match results. While cricket betting leans heavily on individual performance markets, team result markets carry more weight in football.

What are the popular betting markets?

c baji cricket betting gives you access to several markets. Each one has its own characteristics.

Match Winner

A bet on which team will win. In T20 there is no draw, so you pick one of two outcomes. If you pick Team A and Team B wins, the bet loses.

All formats

Toss Winner

A bet on which team wins the toss at the start of the match — this market has no connection to what happens on the field. Both teams' chances of winning the toss are generally close to equal.

Simple market

Top Batsman

A bet on which batter scores the most runs in a specific innings. Batters in the upper order of a strong batting lineup naturally tend to have shorter odds.

ODI and T20

Total Runs Over/Under

A specific run line is set. You bet on whether the total runs scored in a match or innings will be above or below that line.

All formats

Top Wicket Taker

A bet on which bowler takes the most wickets in an innings or match. Pitch conditions and a team's bowling attack shape how this market is approached.

Bowling special

Multi Bet

Multiple selections are combined into a single bet. If all selections are correct, the odds are multiplied together for a larger return. However, if even one selection is wrong, the entire bet loses. For more details, read the c baji Betting Tips Guide.

Higher return

Handicap and First Over Runs

In the handicap market, a weaker team is given an advantage — for example, if Team B is given a 20-run head start, that amount is added when calculating the bet outcome. The "First Over Runs" market requires you to estimate how many runs will be scored in a specific over. These markets help you bet based on your understanding of how the game is played, without any specific stake or mathematical formula required.

Understanding Odds

Decimal, Fractional and American — three odds formats

At c baji, odds are generally shown in three formats. The same odds written differently still mean the same thing. Here is an example to explain:

Format Format What it means
Decimal 3.00 If Team A wins, a ৳500 bet returns ৳1,500 in total (৳1,000 profit + ৳500 stake)
Fractional 2/1 ৳2 profit for every ৳1 staked — the same odds written differently
American +200 A positive number shows how much profit a ৳100 bet makes — here it is 200

Now suppose Team B is the favourite. Decimal 1.50, Fractional 1/2, American -200. A negative American odds number means how much you need to stake to make ৳100 profit — here it is ৳200. A ৳500 bet returns ৳750 in total (৳250 profit). If the bet loses, the ৳500 is gone.

Live Betting Active

In-play betting during the match — odds change every ball

In-play or live betting means you can still place bets after the match has started. In cricket, odds update immediately when a wicket falls or a big six is hit. For example, if a team loses 5 wickets, their odds of winning lengthen (because their chances have dropped); and if 50 runs are needed off 20 balls, the odds shift again.

Some markets may be temporarily suspended at the start of each new over after the previous one ends. Once the powerplay is over, odds are recalculated based on the run rate. To make the most of this, you need to watch how the match is progressing closely.

Remember — betting is for entertainment. In-play betting requires quick decisions, so it is important to set your budget in advance. You should read c baji's Responsible Gaming guidelines on playing responsibly.

When do odds change?

  • When a wicket falls — odds shorten in favour of the bowling team
  • A big six or four — odds improve for the batting team
  • End of the powerplay — odds are recalculated based on the run rate
  • Final 5 overs — odds change quickly due to the pressure of the death overs
  • An injured player or rain delay — any unexpected event

Useful tips for cricket betting

Betting is a form of entertainment. These tips will help you keep the experience enjoyable.

01

Set your budget first

Decide how much you want to bet before each match. If you lose, do not chase losses with larger bets.

02

Start with one market

If you are new, start with the Match Winner market. If you do not yet understand multiple markets well, it is better not to jump into multi bets.

03

Understand the pitch and weather

A batting pitch tends to produce higher scores. If rain is forecast, the D/L method may affect the match result.

04

Do not bet on emotion

It is natural to support your favourite team, but it is better not to base betting decisions on emotion alone.

Multi Bet Example

What happens when you combine multiple selections into one bet?

A multi bet lets you combine the results of three separate matches into one bet. Say three selections have decimal odds of 1.60, 1.80 and 1.90 respectively. Multiplying all three gives combined odds of 5.47 (approximately). A ৳100 bet returns ৳547 if all selections are correct.

However, if any one of the three selections is wrong, the entire ৳100 is lost. A multi bet offers a higher return but also carries higher risk. For this reason, it is generally better to keep your stake small on multi bets. Regular betting on c baji's VIP Programme gives you access to weekly cashback benefits.

Frequently Asked Questions — Cricket Betting

Yes, c baji offers betting on BPL along with other international cricket tournaments. You can place bets before a match starts as well as during the match with in-play betting.

T20 matches have no draw, so the Match Winner market has only two outcomes — Team A or Team B. ODIs also generally have no draw, though rain can bring a D/L method result. In Test cricket a draw is a valid outcome, so odds are split across three possibilities. In T20, odds move quickly because every ball can shift the balance of the match.

Toss Winner is a separate market with no connection to the match result. One of the two teams will win the toss, and since both sides have roughly equal chances, the odds are usually close to each other. It is an independent market and can be added to a multi bet.

In in-play betting, certain markets may be temporarily suspended at specific moments — such as just before a ball is delivered or at critical points in the game. Bets may not be accepted mid-over or while odds are being recalculated after a wicket falls. This is a normal process done to keep odds accurate.

Two dependent selections from the same match generally cannot be added to the same multi bet. For example, adding both "Team A wins" and "Team A's Top Batsman" from the same match may cause an issue because these selections depend on each other. Independent markets from different matches can be combined in a multi bet.
